Each year kids all around Australia read the same book at the the same time and in 2022 it is the beautiful Family Tree written by Josh Pyke and illustrated by Ronojoy Ghosh.
Each year the Children’s Book Council of Australia give us a selected list of the best children’s books from the past year, in six categories:
CBCA Book of the Year: Older Readers
CBCA Book of the Year: Younger Readers
CBCA Book of the Year: Early Childhood
CBCA Picture Book of the Year
Eve Pownall Award
CBCA Award for New Illustrator
The winners of Children’s Book of the year will be announced during Children’s Book Week on Friday 19th August. In the meantime, you are welcome to place a hold on any shortlisted titles using our library catalogue.
More information on the shortlisted titles and the Children’s Book of the Year Award can be found on the Children’s Book Council of Australia website https://cbca.org.au/shortlist-2022

Regular Baby Rhyme Time, Storytime and Toddler Tales sessions take a break over school holidays. Sessions resume during school term, commencing Tuesday 26 April.
Toddler Tales is on again at Augusta Library Thursday 10th March at 10.30am. Caregivers with Toddlers aged 18 to 36 months are welcome to attend for a storytime session with books, rhymes, songs, craft and morning tea.
Book Chat Club is a group for those aged between ten and fourteen years old who are enthusiastic about books.
Each meeting we chat about what we have read and give reviews for other members of the club. There is no ‘set’ book – we agree on a genre or theme, and you pick a book that appeals to you.
The next Book Chat Club meeting is on Monday 28th February at 4.15pm with snacks provided.
As per State Government directions, Masks are mandatory in public settings for all those 12 years and over unless an exemption is provided.
Don’t forget to drop off your Summer Reading Quest Reading Logs, Adventure Cards and Summer Step cards to either of our libraries before 3pm on Friday 18th February.
All returned reading logs, Adventure Cards and Summer Step Cards go to in the state wide prize draw to win book packs.
There are also prizes to win thanks to our local sponsors: Augusta Newsagency, Margaret River Rascals and NewsXpress Margaret River.
Come to Augusta Library this Thursday 10th February at 10.30am for Toddler Tales, aimed at children aged 18 months to 3 years old and their caregivers. A small morning tea is provided in addition to songs, rhymes, stories and craft activities.
