Author Talk by Adventurer, Rob Turner

Thursday 22nd February, 6 – 7pm followed by light refreshments

Rob Turner has lived (and survived) an adventurous life which culminated in self publishing Home the Hard Way. It is the story of his attempted world circumnavigation (1992/95) starting from Sydney, and thwarted in Saudi Arabia  and the enforced return to Perth against the prevailing winds and currents in his 7.1 metre  yacht. De-masting, skipper overboard, pirates, strandings and near misses with massive ships are just some of the adventures which make this a fascinating talk.

Please RSVP to reserve your seat. Email: amrlibrary@amrshire.wa.gov.au or Ph: 9780 5600

Born in, and spending his early youth in northern Tasmania, Rob Turner has always loved adventure, tackling and surviving much more than most. Scuba diver, shipwreck finder, charter pilot and chief flying instructor, former world aerobatic spin record holder and international solo sailor are just some of his experiences in a long and exciting life. Now retired and ‘slowing down’ a little, Rob lives in the small seaside town of Dunsborough, near his family. When not indulging in, amongst other things, his love of writing books or poetry, he especially delights in teaching his two youngest grandchildren the joys of snorkelling and exploring with them in the wonders of the underwater world.

Poetry Workshop at the Margaret River Library

Friday 19th January, 10.30am – 12.30pm

We are thrilled to have Miriam Wei Wei Lo with us to facilitate a poetry workshop on the theme of ‘Writing about home: the poetry of complicated journeys’. This workshop will guide participants in finding their own voice and stories on this theme, with a focus on metaphor as a poetic device.

In early 2023 Miriam was awarded a Westerly Mid-Career Fellowship. While teaching creative writing at Sheridan Institute of Higher Education, she has also just published a new collection of works titled ‘Who Comes Calling’. Attending poetry workshops can help participants learn a new skill, find self-expression and there is no pressure or judgement, just the opportunity to learn and grow.

This 2 hour event is FREE, welcoming and easily accessible with light refreshments included. Spaces are limited for this workshop. Please RSVP to Email: amrlibrary@amrshire.wa.gov.au or Ph: 9780 5600

Wednesday 6th December, 10.30 – 11.30am at the Margaret River Library

Dr Pam Lynch has a fascination for all eras of UK history and archaeology and has taken part in an archaeological dig on a Roman Palace site in the south of England. She recently visited Shetland and its historical sites, intrigued by its extensive remains and the insight they give into an ancient society.

Come along and let her lead you through the extensive history of this group of islands and wonder at the creation of some of its unique monuments and the people who left them behind.
The talk will be followed with light refreshments and the chance to mingle. All welcome to this FREE event.
