Search for the Queen of Sheba Orchid presentation at Margaret River Library

Dr Daniela Scaccabarozzi presents strategies that orchids in South Western Australia employ for attracting insects that fascinatedly pollinate orchid flowers. She is a pollination biologist currently investigating the pollination strategy of the Queen of Sheba Orchid. Her presentation is followed by a film screening of the documentary ‘Search for the Queen of Sheba Orchid’.(duration approx. 1 hr).
The documentary movie is presented by The Field Journal & Sarasota Orchid Society. World-renowned orchid taxonomist and artist Stig Dalstrom and award-winning filmmaker and composer Darryl Saffer travel to Western Australia seeking unique plants and animals that inhabit this amazing land. They are especially interested in finding the rare and elusive Queen of Sheba Orchid. After the screening, Daniela will welcome any question inherent to the topic.

Jazz performance by Serge Le Goueff

Join us for a one hour jazz performance with old favourites like Frank Sinatra’s ‘Singing in the Rain’. What is Jazz? A music history talk by Serge Le Goueff

International jazz saxophonist and jazz educator Serge Le Goueff invites you to join him on his presentation “What is Jazz?” He brings to light the myths as well as the many truths that have contributed to shaping Jazz music over the past century. Through a historical and musical exploration of this genre, Serge brings you this Jazz Appreciation address. This lecture aims to bring clarity to how Jazz came to be. Through time, starting from the late 16th century all the way to today. It is an exploration of how different cultures (musically and geographically) have contributed to the making of the art form we know as Jazz today.

Pioneers of the Western Australian Timber Industry: a talk by Don Briggs
Thursday 17th June, 5.30pm – 6.30pm at Margaret River Library

Author Don Briggs offers a glimpse into the history of the WA timber trade including the periods of exploration, the settlement at King George’s Sound, the Swan River Colony, the forests of the South West and the people who made it happen.
Don is the author of ‘Pioneers of the Western Australian Timber Industry’ and the biographical work ‘The Busettis of Cowaramup’. Both titles are in stock at the Margaret River and Augusta Library.
