For 8 to 11 year olds and held on the first Monday of each month at the Margaret River Library, meet at 4pm for a 4.15 start with our next meeting being 7th August.
During Book Stars we chat about what we have read over the month, give recommendations, and do a book related craft activity.
This is a FREE after school activity and no bookings are required. Please note children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult in the library.

Have your essay and library card handy to log in. Select the Writing Feedback option and submit your essay. Tutors can provide assistance from year 3 through to TAFE and early university levels.

Brendan has recently released his new book ‘Eta Draconis’. In 2015 he published his debut novel Carousel and was awarded a PhD in Creative Writing. The sequel, Beyond Carousel, was released in 2016.
Eta Draconis is his third book and the winner of the 2022 Dorothy Hewett Award for an Unpublished Manuscript. Brendan has also published poetry and non-fiction in several notable journals and collections. In addition to writing, Brendan coordinates an academic enabling program at Edith Cowan University.
Brendan will treat guests with an insight into the creative process behind his work and talk about his latest offering. ALL WELCOME!

Mandala (Sanskrit: “circle”) = the story of the Universe
Originally from Czech Republic, from a very young age Martina was always drawn to any form of creative modalities.
Mandala medicine art has evolved from playing with a simple, meditative style of Zentangle Art (by drawing simple structure patterns like lines and dots) into Mandala art which she has been practising since then. Mandala drawing means the simple yet powerful act of DOING the art: to become more mindful of “here and now”, the process of finding BEingness and stillness within.
Until this day, the inspiration of most of her artwork has been dedicated to the journey with Mandala. This sacred meditative circle keeps coming back to her consciousness and ideas are then expressed on paper, canvas or wooden panel. She intuitively chooses colours and materials and her main influence comes from nature – flowers and leaves especially and to be able to capture nature’s endless expression of beauty.
In 2022 Martina facilitated workshops and found great joy teaching people how to draw Mandalas for themselves as a great medicine when stressed, anxious or in a chaotic state of mind. Mandala is a great teacher when starting or coming back to creativity. By drawing Mandalas you can learn the ultimate truth that everyone is able to be creative and uniquely expressive.
Come along to the Margaret River Library Cocoon Gallery for Emerging Artists to view Martina’s work while it is on display for the months of July and August. She is happy to take requests for Customised Drawings.

Come to the Margaret River Library to make your own “hot dog” book at the Book Cubby. The cubby is a mini maker space for creating your own book so visit the Margaret River Library to either create a book to take home and keep or make one to stay in the Book Cubby and be read by others.
Book into a workshop to get all the skills to make a special “hot dog” book or just come anytime to the cubby to design your own. Best suited to anyone school aged, over 5 years old.

Please book only one session per child to allow as many people as possible the chance to attend.
All school holiday activities are FREE at the Shire Libraries; however bookings are essential, and children must be accompanied by an adult for each session.
Regular Baby Rhyme Time, Storytime and Toddler Tales sessions take a break over school holidays. Sessions resume during school term, commencing Monday 17 July.
Teens aged 12 years old and over are invited to join us at Margaret River Library for Book Chat Club on Monday 26th June at 4pm for a 4.15 start.
At our Book Chat Club meetings we talk about the books we have read and give reviews and recommendations to other club members.
Book Chat Club is free with snacks provided and bookings are not required, simply head to the library at 4pm.
In this workshop, we’ll observe, mimic, and reimagine the movements in nature, especially looking at the stunning flora and fauna found within our southwestern forests, and capture them with our words. Lakshmi will share some lovely examples that have the wind of flight and movement clearly observable in their choice of words and phrases. And together we’ll transport ourselves into forest territory and recreate the poetry of Karri with pen on paper.
Lakshmi is an emerging Western Australian poet of Indian descent. She is a Centre for Stories fellow and she is also the current Poet-in-Residence at The Wetlands Centre in Cockburn. Her published works appear in—”Social Alternatives”, “Portside Review”, “Burrow Journal”, “The Saltbush Review” and more.
