Low Impact Living Session 1 – Waste Reduction and our New Bin Service

Thursday 4th July, 6 – 7:30pm at the Margaret River Library

Have you received your new bin? Want to find out more about waste reduction and our new three bin service? We kick start this year’s Low Impact Living Program with a two-part information session hosted by Jackie Dickson – Shire of Augusta Margaret River Waste Education and Projects Officer and sustainability, waste reduction wizard Nirala Hunt. In part one of this session Jackie will talk us through how to navigate our three-bin service including what to put where and why and where our stuff goes once we pop it in the bin. In the second half of this session, Shopping for the Planet, Nirala will look at shopping choices and how we can make changes to our consumption patterns that have benefits not only for our hip pocket, but also assist us as a society to reduce the amount of waste we create. If this sounds like your cup of tea, we would love to see you there.

Book Bandicoots reading rewards for those 8 to 18 years old

Book Bandicoots is a new program for kids over 8 years old who love reading and visiting their local public library. Each time a child borrows a book they receive a stamp on their Book Bandicoots card and after 10 visits and completing a book review, the card can then be used as a voucher to the Margaret River Bookshop. Book Bandicoots is a perfect graduation for those who have completed Reading Rabbits or just want to be rewarded for reading for fun.

Book Bandicoots is a partnership between the Shire of Augusta Margaret River Libraries, Rotary Club of Margaret River and the Margaret River Bookshop.

Please see our friendly library staff to participate and answer any of your questions.

The Cocoon Gallery hosts Suzanna Hay

Emerging watercolour artist Suzanna Hay will exhibit a selection of her works in the Margaret River Library’s Cocoon Gallery from 5 June to 30 July 2019.
Titled ‘Tidbits’, the exhibition is a showcase of works that predominantly reflect the artist’s environmental surrounds including the trees outside her property in Nannup, treeless red plains and blinding blue skies seen when she travels to northern WA.
Suzanna’s watercolour paintings have attracted a variety of awards in exhibitions across the South West including the 2017 Faith Hemsley award for the most innovative work at Busselton’s annual Art in the Park exhibition.
“Anyone who has tried the medium will know that some days are filled with torture and frustration,” she said.
“However, when the moment is right, this wonderful, transparent medium sparkles into life.”
An active member of the Busselton Art Society, Suzanna has conducted watercolour workshops for beginners in Margaret River and Nannup.
She is a member of the selective Watercolour Society of Western Australia.
The pieces in the Cocoon Gallery are custom framed and being offered for sale.
