Cocoon Gallery presents Carol Seeley

Emerging artist Carol Seeley’s exhibition “An Exploration of Colour and Texture” is currently on display in the Cocoon Gallery.

Showcasing some of Carol’s favourite pieces, the exhibition will run from August 5th to September 30th.

Carol’s love affair with texture began many years ago at a local community sharing centre where she enjoyed pottery classes. From there she started an arts course at her local TAFE, where pottery and print making were the focus of her interest.

Painting for Carol is meditative, emotional and fulfilling and reflects the emotional and physical world around her.

The Cocoon Gallery is located at the Margaret River Library’s foyer.

Children’s book author Frane Lessac visits our Shire libraries for an early Children’s Book Week celebration

Nearly 200 local primary students will meet award-winning children’s book author and illustrator Frané Lessac on Wednesday 7 August 2019 as part of Children’s Book Week celebrations.
The meetings will take place at the Shire libraries in Margaret River and Augusta with Frané to present to the students on a range of topics including where ideas come from, how authors do research, and the process of creating picture books.

Every year the Shire libraries participate in Children’s Book Week, during which Children’s Book of the Year awards are announced, by hosting author events for local school students to attend. Children’s Book Week celebrates all the fantastic children’s literature created in Australia, which includes author and illustrator Frané Lessac’s beautiful books.
Schools participating in the visits include Margaret River Primary School, St Thomas More Catholic Primary School, Rapids Landing Primary School and Augusta Primary School.

The ‘Meet the Author/Illustrator’ event is grant-funded by the Children’s Book Council of Australia (WA branch), Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Lotterywest and Healthway and the Go for 2 & 5 message.

More information about Frané Lessac’s work can be found at www.franelessac.com

Low Impact Living Session 1 – Waste Reduction and our New Bin Service

Thursday 4th July, 6 – 7:30pm at the Margaret River Library

Have you received your new bin? Want to find out more about waste reduction and our new three bin service? We kick start this year’s Low Impact Living Program with a two-part information session hosted by Jackie Dickson – Shire of Augusta Margaret River Waste Education and Projects Officer and sustainability, waste reduction wizard Nirala Hunt. In part one of this session Jackie will talk us through how to navigate our three-bin service including what to put where and why and where our stuff goes once we pop it in the bin. In the second half of this session, Shopping for the Planet, Nirala will look at shopping choices and how we can make changes to our consumption patterns that have benefits not only for our hip pocket, but also assist us as a society to reduce the amount of waste we create. If this sounds like your cup of tea, we would love to see you there.
