Learn to touch-type – free with your library membership!

Typing is a valuable skill for anybody who uses a keyboard to study, work or play.

KAZ is now available free for all library patrons. It uses a unique and proven ‘accelerated learning’ teaching method. Incorporating both ‘muscle memory’ and ‘brain balance’, KAZ engages the major senses of sight, sound and touch simultaneously, enhancing memory retention and recall.

The course is presented in a structured but light-hearted manner in order to make learning enjoyable. It solely focuses on teaching typing and does not include gaming.

The program offers both spoken and written instruction. Developed with guidance from the British Dyslexia Research Trust, KAZ is suitable for everyone, but also offers dyslexia-friendly functionalities, minimising visual stress by allowing each individual to set preferences for visibility comfort.

Users can choose between the Junior and Adult versions. Links to KAZ can be found on the library Lifelong Learning page, and also on the E-resources for parents and children page.

The water connection display

Visitors to the Margaret River Library have the opportunity to learn about how to save water around the home and take away a flyer that lists easy ways we can all help to conserve and sustain our water. ‘The Water Connection’ is a project of Transition Margaret River and supported by Nature Conservation Margaret River and the Shire. If you can’t make it in, some of the tips include: take shorter showers; install water efficient shower head; use dual flush toilet system; use a glass of water to brush your teeth instead of running the tap; fix leaking appliances; plant a water wise garden. The library also has a great range of books to guide you in learning about sustainable living.

New Year resolution #1: learn to touch-type online

Typing is such a necessary skill these days – and using 2 fingers to ‘search and peck’ each key can really slow you down.

Once you know how to touch-type, you can type fluently and quickly, and not have to watch your fingers while you do it!

Like riding a bike or playing piano, once your body has acquired the skill, it becomes something you can always come back to – and with practice, build speed and accuracy.

KAZ Online is a dyslexia-friendly online touch-typing course, suitable for all ages and skill levels. It’s free for all our library members.

Just click here to visit our Lifelong Learning page, where you’ll find more information and a link to KAZ. Note: If you already have some typing skills, don’t try to jump ahead. The course is designed to ensure every component is completed before you can move forward, to ensure any faulty techniques are ‘unlearned’ while the new skills are being acquired.
