The Augusta and Margaret River Libraries are now closed for the Christmas break.
We’d like to wish all our community a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
The libraries will be open again at 10am on Thursday 2 January.
In preparation for Chinese New Year celebrations at the library, we have started the ‘Decorate a Rat Mask’ craft activity. This is how to join in:
Both branches will close at 12 noon on Tuesday 24 December, and re-open at 10am on Thursday 2 January.
Our online resources will be available for the duration of the break – click here to explore our range of e-books, downloadable audio-books, online courses and movie streaming services.
Remember, you can borrow up to 30 items, so be sure to stock up! We extend our borrowing period over Christmas, so no items will be due back during the break.
Cynamon conducted a twine weaving demonstration at the library in September and the participants learned the weaving technique and how to recycle fabric into lengths of cord for weaving. The cords from the workshop have been upcycled into the basket that has been presented to the library to hold the Hand Puppet collection.
The Margaret River Library is clearing some books that no longer have a place on our shelves. If you would like to help in our effort to recycle books, pop in for a browse. Titles are .50c each.

Celebrate Seniors Week with morning tea at the Margaret River Library. Entertainment includes the Montessori School Choir, general knowledge quiz, lucky door prizes, aromatherapy hand massages and Kim Fuller will be on hand to talk to guests one-on-one about staying fit and healthy at home. Discover deadly will be running workshops to teach snake identification, safety around snakes and correct first aid treatment for snake bite. Venomous and non venomous snakes will be on display with the opportunity to cuddle a python. Sessions are professional, informative, safe and fun. They are designed for teachers, carers, outdoor workers and business owners who might encounter snakes in their work day. What to Grow and How to Preserve It focuses on all you need to know about planting food for the summer growing season, including enriching your patch through the use of worm tunnels. In addition, Session 5 will provide you with demonstrations, recipes and tastings of a variety of ways to enjoy and preserve your summer fruit and vegetables.

When you next visit the library take a few minutes to look at our New Books Display. You might come across something you’ve been looking for, or a book you did not even know you wanted.
If you are a fiction reader, some of the current highlights include: “A boy and his dog at the end of the world” by C. A. Fletcher. With well thought lines, Fletcher evokes a world where not many of us are left. A phenomenally crafted tale of survival, kindness and a very empty planet.
“The beekeeper of Aleppo” by Christy Lefteri, is not the story of one single refugee, but many stories blended into one to draw a deep picture of the real struggles lived by those who try to escape a war torn country in order to survive. At times heart breaking and others heart-warming, this a tale of contemporary significance.
You will also find new books by Ben Elton, Chloe Benjamin and Sally Rooney.
Take a journey with “Great Western Railway Gallery” book, get adventurous but not too reckless in the kitchen with “Healthy Greek Cooking”, or toss the diet out the window with Pamela Clark’s” Cake & Co”.
Penny Olsen and Lynette Russell shed a light on the importance indigenous Australians had in helping European settlers find and catalogue our unique fauna in “Australia’s first naturalists”.
This New Books edition is an eclectic sample of our collection, and we hope you find something special for you. Just remember to place a hold on the item you would like to read, or ask one of our staff if you need help.
