Snake Safety and Reptile Myth Busting

The Discover Deadly team will be visiting the library to chat about how to stay safe around snakes and reptiles and give participants the chance to interact with reptiles that live at the centre. Best suited to kids over 5 years old.

Digital Tutoring Continues Thanks To New Funding

We are excited to announce that Augusta Margaret River Libraries received funding under the Learning for a Better World Trust and the FOLA  Australia Country Library 2024 Program. The funding is designed to assist Regional, rural and remote libraries for a diverse range of projects, and we are one of 79 libraries to receive the funding.

The $1,500 grant will allow us to keep delivering our necessary Digital Training Program as one-on-one sessions and small group workshops.

FOLA President Jack Goodman says, “Country libraries are at the heart of the community, providing havens where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together to share ideas, learn new skills and connect with each other.”

Currently the library provides one-on-one sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If you would like to understand more about your phone, tablet, or learn how to use your laptop, please contact the library to book a session. Ph: 9780 5600 or Email Ana: abrawls@amrshire.wa.gov.au 

You don’t need to be library member to access the digital tutoring program.

Healthy Aging Talks With Leisa Prangnell

Margaret River Library is hosting three information sessions presented by Leisa Prangnell. The first talk coincides with Dementia Awareness Week (16-22 September).

Leisa is a passionate aged care advocate, nurse, and educator. Her series of talks starts with learning about dementia, what it is, living with it and the resources available. The talks are aimed at the whole community. This event is free with light refreshments available.

19th September, 2 – 3pm: Dementia Awareness

10th October, 2 – 3pm:  Advance Care Planning, Advance Health Directives and Palliative Care

17th October, 2 – 3pm:  Stay on your feet. Program overview of resources and materials available, including simple exercise cards

Holistic Therapies for Animals: Sharing Our Hearts and Nurturing Touch with Our Furry Friends

How we care for the animals in our lives is evolving. Pets are now an integral part of how we define the word ‘family. Holistic therapies, once considered only for humans are becoming increasingly popular with our companion animals. Together with veterinary care, these modalities offer a complete wellness program addressing the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of our pets.

Jackie Segers will be sharing her stories and insights into helping pets to better health. She will also give a face reflexology massage tutorial that you can offer your furry friends.  Light refreshments will be provided after the talk.

The Armadale Writers Award 2024

The City of Armadale Libraries are excited to announce the forthcoming Armadale Writers Award.

This is an excellent opportunity for writers in the South West to enter a state wide writing competition that offers great prizes for their efforts.

The Armadale Writers’ Award is a creative writing competition which is open to adult writers living in Western Australia. The entries will be judged by a panel of authors and librarians, who will be looking at the originality of themes, plot development, story structure, and the overall quality of writing. Works must be original unpublished prose and have a 1000 – 3000 word count.

Entry for this competition is online, and access to the entry form will only be available from 1 to 30 September 2024. It is important that entrants read the Terms and Conditions to guarantee eligibility.

Prizes:

  • 1st $1000
  • 2nd $750
  • 3rd $500

Entries Open 1 September 2024, 12am (AWST)
Entries Close 30 September 2024, 11.59pm (AWST)

Happy Children’s Book Week Everyone!

Every year, all over Australia, we celebrate Children’s Book Week to highlight the many fantastic books for youth that are produced in this country. 

Children’s Book of the Year has also announced during this week and our libraries have the shortlisted and winning books on display for you to request.

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River Libraries also celebrate Children’s Book Week by inviting an award winning author or illustrator to visit our libraries and speak to local school students.

This year, thanks to our sponsors The State Government of Western Australia through the Department of Local Government, Sports and Cultural Industries and the Children’s Book Council of Australia WA branch, author Kylie Howarth will be presenting at Margaret River and Augusta libraries on Wednesday 28th August to students from St Thomas More Catholic Primary School, Margaret River Montessori School, Karridale Primary School, Augusta Primary School and Home School families.


Kylie has written and illustrated over 11 books for children of all ages and recently won the Western Australian Premier’s Book Awards Writers Fellowship and was shortlisted for SCBWI Australian Picture Book Illustrators Award, CBCA Book of the Year Awards, WAYRBA and the YABBA awards.
