Do you like reading magazines?

Our online collection of magazines has moved from RBDigital to Overdrive.

All the same great titles are still available, and you have a choice of apps to use to read them:

Libby – great if you like a modern interface and a wide range of functionalities. Start on the home page. Scroll down until you come to Popular Australian Magazines. You can download the magazines to your device so that you can enjoy them when you’re offline.

Overdrive (the classic app) – for those of us who prefer a more traditional app layout. Click in Collections then scroll down to Magazines. You will only be able to read the magazines while online if you choose this app.

Action packed Historical Thrillers

If you are a fan of action-thriller authors like Preston & Child, Matthew Reilly, Dan Brown or Andy McDermott, you might enjoy the books by Steve Berry.

Berry’s historical thrillers mix facts, theories, conspiracies and a lot of action.

His main character, Cotton Malone, appears in many of his novels, and as they stand alone, you can read them in any order.

Book illustration workshop at the Augusta Library

Wednesday 14th April, 1 – 4pm

This 3 hour illustration workshop is an interactive introductory course exploring children’s book art. Discover methods for designing characters, creative drawing systems and the step-by-step process in creating an illustration. Gabriel Evans also presents informative and entertaining insights into being a successful children’s picture book illustrator and author. Listed are covers of some of his latest publications.

Book illustration and drawing workshop with Gabriel Evans

Gabriel Evans is an illustrator who creates worlds with a paintbrush. He’s worked with some of the worlds most loved publishers including Penguin Australia, Hardie Grant, Walker Books Australia, Scholastic Australia, Simon & Schuster USA, Affirm Press and Berbay Publishing. Gabriel has teamed up with acclaimed Australian and USA authors and received two notable Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book of the Year nominations.

During this workshop you will explore the process of illustrating a book, creating characters, developing picture book ideas and hear Gabriel’s journey to becoming an illustrator.

The Golden Feather hunt begins!

Join the hunt for the Golden Feather at your local library during the school holidays. As part of the Scribblers Festival, feathers have been hidden in books across West Australian public libraries – will you be the lucky winner who finds the Golden Feather?

Thanks to Scribblers Festival, you can also pick up a RELICS: Bricks of the new world workbook while stocks last.

All school holiday activities are FREE at the Shire Libraries, however bookings are essential and children must be accompanied by an adult for each session.

Regular Baby Rhyme Time, Storytime and Toddler Tales sessions take a break over school holidays. Sessions resume during school term, commencing Monday 19 April.

 

Libraries closed for Easter

Margaret River and Augusta Libraries will be closed for Easter from Friday 2nd to Monday 5th April.

Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday

OPEN again at 10am on Tuesday 6th April. Please use the after-hours chute for your returns while we are closed. Library online services are still available, just visit amrlibraries.com to get started.

Important information about Junior and Young Adult memberships

We want to let all parents know about a system change that will affect our Junior and Young Adult members.

Effective immediately, all Junior and Young Adult membership types will now be able to use their library cards to access the internet on our public PCs. The library wifi is also freely available and not restricted by age.

If you would prefer your child to not be able to log themselves onto a PC session, please ensure you supervise them at the libraries.

We encourage all parents to have regular ‘internet safety’ talks with their children. Click here to find some helpful links to help with your chats. Then scroll down to the ‘Young People’ section:

Lego Workshop – Let’s build our future

If you are 12-25 years old and want to have fun and make a difference, join this Lego Workshop to help visualise the future for the youth of the Margaret River region. The Shire of Augusta Margaret River is reviewing its 5 year Youth Plan and we need your help! Facilitated by The Very Serious Business Co.

Free snacks and drinks will be provided.
