July School holiday Lego Club challenge

The virtual lego club challenge this holidays was to create an amazing park or playground and you all sure know how to design one!

Here are some of the entries we received:

Romy created a mythical forest park,

Jessie made a volano park,

Ali and Leon had fun with 2 different park designs,

Here is Vrit’s submarine with scientists who are trying to discover new species of plants and sea creatures on the sea bed:

Jiya made a tissue box cover – very practical!

Seth designed a Fairground of wonders. Highlights include a Slide, Beep bop bunker (this plays music), News crew at the park just to film stuff, Geysers with food colouring in them so they look cool, Security guard checking speed limits of cars going past.

Hugh created a Fair of Awesomeness where you will find a garden on the roof, Lolly bucket on the wall that you can actually put your hand in and take lollies out, Spider webs everywhere, a lot of hand sanitiser and the park owner lives in a hut in the park (called Hugh).

Sian enjoyed building her tree house theme play park with treasure map and telescope to watch the stars at night in the school holidays.

There is still more time to send your photo in and win a prize. Email your completed Lego Challenge photo of your ultimate playground design to Rachael on rdrummond@amrshire.wa.gov.au and she will add your photo to this website.

Learn a new skill – touch typing with KAZ!

Touch typing is the ability to type quickly and accurately without having to look down at the keyboard – a valuable skill for anybody who uses a keyboard to study, work or play. Your library membership gives you free access to KAZ Online, a learning tool that helps you to train your brain so that touch typing becomes automatic. No more having to ‘hunt and peck’ for each letter!

KAZ uses a unique ‘accelerated learning’ teaching method, engaging sight, sound and touch simultaneously, to enhance memory retention and recall.

The course is presented in a structured but light-hearted manner in order to make learning fun and enjoyable.

The program offers both spoken and written instruction. Developed with guidance from the British Dyslexia Research Trust, KAZ is suitable for everyone, but also offers dyslexia-friendly functionalities, minimising visual stress by allowing each individual to set preferences for visibility comfort.

Users can choose between the Junior and Adult versions. Links to KAZ can be found on the library Lifelong Learning page, and also on the E-resources for parents and children page.

New Books on Feminism

Feminism is more than a movement for women’s right to work and vote.
It’s the teenage girl in the faraway country dreaming to walk freely, the elderly women sharing her wisdom without fear of being chastised, the young woman getting to work in whatever job she feels suited to and getting paid accordingly.
Learn a bit more about one of the most influential social movements of the twenty-first century with this week’s New Books. If you are visiting the library, our New Books Display is back on, with a bigger selection to chose from.

Feminine Genius It's not about the burqa Song Spiral , sharing women's wisdom of Country through songlines The guilty feminist The power of age The art of feminism. Images that shaped the fight for equality
